Curriculum Statement
Media Studies allows students of all abilities to develop a critical media literacy, to question the world around them through the analysis of a wide range of Media texts and their understanding of a number of careers through the production of their own work.
It allows students to build a rich knowledge of the creative industries, embedding cross-curricular ideology and skills through analytical and creative contexts. Students develop their understanding of how Media is created, influenced and consumed in a broad range of industries and texts. Students develop the skills to critically analyse the Media, whilst also promoting their own creative abilities to produce and reflect on their own products.
Our curriculum builds on previous knowledge and learning through a range of activities and texts, asking students to recall key information whilst also requiring students to be selective in the application of their knowledge. Students are asked to complete extended reading and writing tasks that will expand their knowledge and understanding of the subject. This is reinforced with a range of tasks and scaffolding to support the strengths and needs of our students.
Media Studies encourages critical discussions and debates of the influence of historical and political contexts. It develops students into resilient, creative and confident learners who are curious and engaged with representations and issues in the world around them.
