Curriculum Statement
Our PSHCE curriculum gives all learners the knowledge and skills to live happy, healthy and independent lives. Students are taught about the challenges and opportunities of growing up in modern Britain, and are given the tools to face these when they arise.
PSHCE stands for Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship Education. In PSHCE, students are taught how to be healthy (both physically and emotionally); the risks of drugs, alcohol and tobacco; the qualities of positive relationships; British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance; and are taught how to prepare for future learning and employment. PSHCE also aims to develop and consolidate students’ communication; self-management and problem solving skills.
All of the PSHCE units fall under four strands: health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world. There is a progression of learning in each unit and students are able to draw on their previous lessons to build a deeper understanding of each topic. The intent of these lessons is to generate student engagement and enjoyment; to help students to learn valuable life lessons and to encourage our students to be curious, confident and thoughtful.
