Physical Education

Curriculum Statement

Our PE curriculum is broad and balanced; learners have the opportunity to develop new skills through a planned sequence of diverse sports. Through a large variety of team sports and individual activities students’ personal development is at the forefront of learning aimed at the eventual outcome of excellence through mastery. Our Mastery strands underpin our PE curriculum and learners strive to be masters in all areas and are provided with opportunities and pathways to cultivate physical skills alongside social and emotional skills in order to thrive within our academy and to use these skills to be successful within life.

The PE curriculum provides students with an in depth understanding of the requirements to live a heathy life.  Learners are given opportunities to routinely analyse their own and others’ performance by continuously providing constructive ways to significantly improve performance, a tool that will support them as they continue through academia and beyond. Students in all year groups will strive to succeed on their chosen pathway through a sequential curriculum which is underpinned by the lifelong understanding of the needs to live a healthy life.

Alongside the knowledge and skills to continue a healthy and active lifestyle throughout their adult life, students will have developed characteristics such as sportsmanship that will afford the learners to win or lose with dignity within everyday life; fair play, avoiding rule breaking and recognising sanctions imposed while respecting the purpose of the application of these rules. Students will develop resilience by persevering through game context, being happy to make mistakes and committed to learning new concepts. These characteristics will aid students for their next stage of education, employment or training.

Our ambitious enrichment offer which has significant depth allows students to reach the very top by creating pathways into elite sport and high level competition.
