Course Outline

Studying a BTEC in Sport is a great way to learn about working in the sport and fitness sector. There are so many careers involved in sport and these are expanding all the time – Sports Coach, Nutritionist and Sports Psychologist, are just a few.  On a BTEC Sport course you will learn in and outside the classroom, getting to grips with the theory behind sport.

BTECs embody a learner centred approach to the curriculum, with a flexible, unit based structure and knowledge applied in project based assessments. They focus on the holistic development of the practical, interpersonal and thinking skills required to be able to succeed in employment and higher education.

Assessment and Examinations

There are three main forms of assessment for BTEC Sport: external, internal and synoptic.

Units are assessed using a grading scale of Distinction, Merit and Pass.

  • Unit 1 – Anatomy and Physiology (External Exam)
  • Unit 2 – Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (External Synoptic Assessment)
  • Unit 3 – Professional Development in the Sports Industry (Internal Assignment)
  • Unit 4 – Sports Leadership (Internal Assignment)
  • Unit 5 – Application of Fitness Testing (Internal Assignment)
  • Unit 6 – Sports Psychology  (Internal Assignment)
  • Unit 7 – Practical Sports Performance (Internal Assignment)

Future Prospects

BTEC Sport will provide you with the knowledge and practical skills required to work in or study at higher levels in the following fields: Physiotherapy,PE Teaching, Sports Development, Fitness Industry, Coaching, Sports Psychology, Sports Law, Sports Medicine.
