Curriculum Statement
Students in History learn how the modern world has reached its current state. Students will gain knowledge about the world around them and their place in it; History helps to foster a sense of identity. By studying History, students become better citizens, able to actively participate in a democracy, understanding how to critically evaluate information and identify how powerful interpretations can be. Our students will master skills necessary to be top historians – acquiring deep and broad knowledge, developing conceptual understanding, analysing contemporary texts and evaluating judgements. Our students will become curious, reflective, confident and independent lifelong-learners. Through reading, analysis, discussion, extended writing and creative projects, all students will be able to access the course and develop into strong historians. History qualifications open doors to a particularly broad range of careers thanks to the critical thinking and literacy skills developed, for example law, business, journalism, civil service, heritage and academia.
