At Highbury Grove, together we will be…
Kind
We believe educating the hearts and minds of our students through the development of emotional intelligence skills is critical in preparing them for the challenges they face as young people today, and as adults tomorrow. For us, this means striving to embed a culture of kindness and teaching how kindness (or lack of it) can impact the world around us including our peers, friends, families, and community.
Courageous
Courage is a daily practice, especially in the classroom. Courage, for us, is confidently acting in accordance to your beliefs, despite fear, difficulty, or opposition. Teaching our students to have courage in the classroom not only increases engagement and academic achievement, but it also helps students learn how to handle adversity. Our students face the challenge of trying new things every day at school! So too do our teachers and staff.
Ambitious
We believe there is no limit to what our students can achieve. So we want to encourage them to be ambitious. To reach for their dreams. To step outside their comfort zones and try something new.
Being ambitious should inspire our students. We want to urge them to stretch themselves that little bit further. To be relentlessly optimistic. To be the best that they can be. And beyond that to make a difference, to make things better, throughout our world.
Ambition can take them anywhere. It’s transformational. It’s what makes the extraordinary possible. But it’s only the spark. It takes passion, determination and commitment to make it a reality. It takes creativity and innovation. It takes resilience and courage. It takes confidence.
Successful
Ultimately, we are dedicated to ensuring that all of our students leave our school with the qualifications, skills and experience they need to be successful. Every day our students, teachers and staff will strive to be exceptional, working together to ensure our school stands out. For us it is not enough just to be the equal of everyone else. We do not hide in mediocrity. We want to work harder, go further and achieve more than everyone else – because we believe every member of our school can be successful and exceptional.
Safe
We recognise the importance of providing a safe and secure learning environment that extends beyond the classroom – a place where students feel supported to take academic risks without judgement, measure personal risks appropriately and are supportive of each other and the whole school community. We are committed to the creation of a culture in which discrimination or harassment of any kind is not tolerated. Our students education will prepare them socially, spiritually and morally and their successes will be recognised and celebrated.
