Curriculum Statement
By learning languages at Highbury Grove, students will learn valuable skills that will help them thrive in a global society, developing not only linguistic skills which supports their literacy and broadens their vocabulary, but encourages cultural awareness of Hispanic and Francophone countries. Exploring a wide range of traditions and customs, studying a language will inspire a desire to learn about the wider world and an appreciation of the diverse cultures that surround us. Through the main MFL skills of reading, speaking, listening and writing, students will cover topics on the curriculum at GCSE and A-level such as identity and culture, local, national and international areas of interest, future study and employment, politics, film and literature. Students will be challenged with extended writing tasks and in their spoken ability, with tasks that develop oracy, resilience and confidence.
Language qualifications are highly regarded by top universities and open doors to a particularly broad range of careers thanks to the problem solving, communication and literacy skills developed, for example law, hotel management, travel and tourism, translating, interpreting, journalism, teaching, sales and marketing, banking, public relations, personal assistant and exporting and importing.
