HGS Foundation

HGS Foundation

The charity was set up in 2012 with the aim of advancing the education of pupils in school, in particular by:

  • developing effective relationships between staff, parents and others associated with the school
  • engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school

The charity has raised over £190,000 for the school since 2012 and has supported a number of enrichment projects.

This year the charity will be raising money for two important programmes:

Enrichment Programme

The HGS Foundation is currently seeking to raise £20,000 to support the Academy’s before and after school enrichment programme. Students can participate in a wide range of projects, competitive and non-competitive sports, creative and performing arts classes as well as academic booster classes. Many activities are run by COLAHG staff but the Academy also works with external organisations and specialist providers to ensure a high quality offer for students. The Academy encourages all our students to take part in at least one activity, to enrich their experience and enjoyment of learning as well as develop new skills, interests and friendships. Examples of the enrichment offer include:

Sport

There is a comprehensive programme of extra-curricular activities both before and after school, at lunchtimes and during weekends. The school offers both team and individual sports coaching and provides the opportunity to compete against other schools in regular sporting fixtures. The school also has a Saturday Basketball Academy which is growing in size and includes a wide range of different students who are able to benefit from bespoke training and coaching in addition to competing in the borough.

Debating

Students are invited to participate in a wide range of spoken language projects and competitions. There is a well-established Debate Mate club open to all students in Years 7-10, and students also compete in the City of London Schools debating competition and the ‘Speak Out!’ challenge organised by the Jack Petchey Foundation.

Music and Drama

Students take part in a range of different programmes related to Music and Drama in addition to taking advantage of the number of fantastic creative platforms and experiences on offer in our city. The HGSF has afforded a large number of students the opportunity to watch world-class performances at internationally renowned venues.

Activities Week

The Foundation is currently seeking to raise £20,000 to support the Academy’s Activities Week 2025. Activities Week is for our students in Years 7 – 9 during the latter half of the summer term.  During Activities Week the normal timetable will be put to one side so that each student has the opportunity to take part in something different and potentially new.  Activities Week provides a safe, structured opportunity for our young people to enjoy new experiences and gain new skills.  It gives them confidence to achieve in different settings and year groups and provides the chance to be active, to participate, take on responsibility and demonstrate maturity. The activities on offer range from residential trips abroad to daily trips in London and other school based challenges.
