Every student at CoLAHG learns a musical instrument as part of their curriculum Music lessons – these are offered free of charge thanks to our partnership with the Music in Secondary Schools Trust. Students take their instrument home and are required to practise at least four times per week. Students who make good progress on their instrument will be invited to join one of our Academy orchestras, who play regularly at events.
On joining the Academy, students can choose between two musical pathways:
- Core Music – learning the flute, violin or viola in a group, as part of curriculum lessons
- Music Specialist School (MSS) – learning any orchestral instrument through paired or individual lessons, as well as accessing additional musical tuition through our after-school MSS ensemble programme.
Before completing your Year 6 Admissions Pack, please watch the introduction video below to find out more about our musical offer. If you are planning to apply for our Music Specialist School, the instrument videos, featuring current CoLAHG students, will give further guidance to help you with your instrument choices.
