Under 16’s girls’ football Final

The Under-16 girls football team reached the league final for the first time ever after winning all of their previous matches, earning the chance to face Haverstock in the final.

We started the game strongly and dominated much of the first half. Jade and Molly created several good opportunities up front, but unfortunately we were unable to convert them into goals. Defensively we were solid, with Nikola and Nyah working hard to stop counterattacks and keep the pressure off our goal. Despite our strong performance, we went into half-time unlucky not to be ahead.

During the break we made a few substitutions to ensure all players had the opportunity to get on the pitch. Unfortunately, just a few minutes into the second half, one of Haverstock’s attackers managed to break through our defense and score. Although this knocked our confidence slightly, the team continued to fight. Nylah made two outstanding back-to-back saves in goal to prevent them from extending their lead. Janessa also pushed forward and challenged their defense with some excellent play, but we were unable to find a way past their goalkeeper.

Later in the half we lost our shape momentarily and Haverstock were able to score again, taking a 2–0 lead. The team remained determined and continued to battle until the final whistle, but unfortunately the match ended with us finishing as runners-up and taking home the league’s silver medal.

The team should be extremely proud of reaching the final and of the effort they showed throughout the tournament. In my view, they were the stronger and more dominant team overall. Well done girls!
