World Author Visit – Nicola Garrard

As part of World Book Day 2026, author Nicola Garrard came to Highbury Grove to run a series of workshops focused on her novels, the life of an author and how to develop brilliant creative writing. Over 70 students attended the workshops after being nominated by their English teachers. Nicola worked as an English teacher at this very school before she became an author so it was brilliant for students to hear about how she used the experiences of young people in our community to inspire her writing. Nicola’s latest novel, On The Edge, is shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal – the most prestigious award for young person’s fiction, and students received some expert coaching on how to develop creative writing.
