School Council

CoLA Highbury Grove School council is at the core of life at our school. It is the pupils themselves, who run and organise the council. Student voice is prevalent throughout Highbury Grove; students have been instrumental to the development and transition to our new school building. Helping to design the school uniform and student planners to deciding on symbols for our new House system.

The council is elected every year; each form class has a council representative. During registration time students are encouraged to talk to their council representative regarding issues they wish discussed at council meetings. The council meetings have 50 members representing all forms, the meetings take place every fortnight. The meetings feed into the Student Leadership Team which meets every half term and then into the Staff Leadership Team meetings.

Our school council have pioneered many activities over the past year, ranging from fundraising for various organisations such as:

  • Greenpeace
  • World Aids Day and World Water Day
  • A mock election within the school

This was an outstanding success with a 85% voter participation. Our school representatives are responsible, committed and confident young people whose hard work and dedication not only benefits students within Highbury Grove and the whole school community.
