At Highbury Grove we want every student to enjoy reading, because we know that students who read for pleasure succeed at school. For this reason the library organises many activities promoting reading for pleasure, e.g. book quizzes, World Book Day events and shadowing the Carnegie Children’s Book award. Some students work as library helpers at break times. We are a ‘Reading Connects’ school and expect students to have a reading book with them at all times.

Library location:

Ground floor – Strawberry

Borrowing books

All students may borrow books from the library and are welcome to suggest books for the librarian to purchase. Staff and parents are also encouraged to suggest books.

Reading for learning

The library has a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books, from easy readers to A-level texts, including careers material and books in Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish, to support students’ learning.

The library also has 16 networked computers for student use. All computers can be used for research, and producing school work.

Using the library

Students may use the library before school, at break, lunch time and after school to borrow books, read, study and do homework.

Students will also have some English Lessons in the library to help improve their writing, reading and research skills.
